In the European Union budget, the European Structural and Investment Fundas (ESIF) play a key role. The Structural Funds (ERDF and ESF), as well as the Cohesion Fund are part of these resources. Both the Structural Funds and the Cohesion Fund were created to enhance economic and social cohesion within the European Union through co-funding of public expenditure policies of Member States aimed at attaining such cohesion.
In Spain, the Structural Funds and the Cohesion Fund are coordinated and allocated by the Ministry of Finance, through the Directorate-General of European Funds, within the State Secretariat for Budgets and Expenditure.
